Follow his typographic design career from the 70s to the present. Ray began as an apprentice, cleaning up typefaces for the photo lettering industry and designing typefaces for the photo typositor machine while working for Headliners of NY, and John Schaedler Inc., respectively.
Later on, as an independent custom lettering artist, Ray serviced the publishing, advertising and packaging design industries with his lettering and design skills. To add color to his type he mastered the skill of airbrush rendering.
In the early 90s, Ray converted his traditional tools to a Mac and a mouse and taught himself Adobe Illustrator. He explored creating type in 3D using Stratavision. He also draws letters in the dark with custom made flashlight brushes which are captured on a digital camera. In recent years, Ray has been commissioned by advertising agencies to create custom typefaces for advertising campaigns and major brands.
Ray has been a speaker and presenter of his versatile lettering skills at Universities, TypeCon and art associations. He currently teaches, part time at Kean University and Marywood University.
