Shadowboxing : Duality in Design

Hear Staehle talk about how everything good in design comes in twos, and how professional work can inform your personal work and vice versa.

Join him down a strange forked road from Will Staehle’s book covers, lettering, and posters to Wilhelm Staehle’s macabre silhouettes and dime novels. Also, look behind the scenes of his newest gallery show: Widows & Orphans, on display at the TDC starting December 3rd.

Will Staehle (willstaehle.com) grew up reading comics and working summers at his parents design firm in Wisconsin. He was Art Director for HarperCollins Publishers in NY, and has since been labeled by Print Magazine as one of their New Visual Artists and was also named an ADC Young Gun. Will’s works have appeared in various design annuals and he has also contributed to the AIGA’s 50 books / 50 covers exhibit. Currently, Will is Design Director for JibJab in Venice, CA. He also has his own studio, Lonewolfblacksheep, where he uses his design and illustration background to create stylized posters, lettering, and comics to ensure that he gets as little sleep as possible.

Will Staehle (willstaehle.com) is a horribly disfigured gentleman who often frightens small children when he emerges from the seclusion of his sprawling estate on the eastern coast of the Americas. In his free time, between sporting for foxes and dressing his disturbingly broad collection of taxidermy, he finds time to hand-cut silhouettes. He begs you to enjoy them, or to at least refrain from informing him if you do not. He thanks you for your time.
