The annual TDC conference is soon (March 1!) bringing an exciting line up speakers to the SVA Theater in New York. Guiding us through the day will be Rich Tu, the vice president of design at MTV, artist, and passionate podcaster.

Rich has applied his creative talents in many ways for a variety of clients besides MTV, from The New York Times to Nike and National Public Radio. He has designed everything from sneakers to gin bottles, and has art-directed a music video for the band The Griswolds and illustrated lyric videos for Matilda: The Musical.

Graphic design, ideation, and storytelling for the Nike Kyrie 3 “Mac & Cheese”, inspired by Kyrie Irving’s favorite meal. Designed in conjunction and collaboration with the Nike Young Athletes design team.
Patch design based on personal symbology for the Emblematics group show at Yanagida Projects in Portland, Oregon

In his podcast “First Generation Burden,” Rich explores diversity within the creative community by talking to immigrants and the children of immigrants about their experiences living and working in the United States. Rich himself is a first generation Filipino-American who is a sensitive recorder of the stories of such creative professionals as graphic designer and typographer Juan Carlos Pagan and graphic designer Zipeng Zhu, who happens to be one of the judges of the TDC competition this year.

During the day of the TDC conference, entitled Type: More ______ Than Ever (speakers and attendees are encouraged to fill in the blank), Rich will be introducing speakers and moderators E Roon Kang, Nontsikelelo Mutiti, Wael Morcos, Natasha Jen, Anne Quito, Yotam Hadar, Ksenya Samarskaya, Debbie Millman, Kris Holmes, Dan Rhatigan, Irin Kim, Charles Nix, Jason Pamentel, and Gloria Kondrup.

Come help us fill in the blank on March 1st!
