CONCEPT:

For our special all-fiction issue inspired by Boccacio?s novel, The Decameron, we worked with the artist Sophy Hollington to create a variety of hand-carved linocut typographic elements and illustrations. For the cover, Sophy used a selection of imagery from various stories in the collection combined with hand-drawn typography and a customized masthead to create this beautiful piece packed with meaning. These densely composed pairings of type and image also served as a visual nod to 14th century illuminated manuscripts.
