Join us as Person Place Thing host Randy Cohen interviews ADC Hall of Fame graphic designer and art director, Steven Heller, in a live recording of the popular public radio series with the Type Directors Club
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Steven Heller’s recent book GROWING UP UNDERGROUND : A Memoir of Counter Culture New York chronicles the first decade of his 50+ year career as an art director, graphic designer, educator and writer (of sorts). He is the author, coauthor or editor of over 200 books on popular culture through the lens of design, typography and ephemera. He was for 33 years an art director at the New York Times, around 30 of them at the Book Review section. He is the recipient of the AIGA Medal, National Design Award, inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame and was awarded two honorary doctorates. He has written obituaries and design columns for The Times, The Atlantic and Wired and writes The Daily Heller for Printmag.com. He is married to Louise Fili and they have one son, a filmmaker known as New York Nico
Person Place Thing is an interview show based on the idea that people are particularly engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but about something they care about. Guests talk about one person, one place, and one thing with particular meaning to them. The result: surprising stories from great talkers and thinkers
Person Place Thing takes place in front of an audience, with live music, at a variety of venues and is then edited for broadcast across a 23-station regional radio network, and a dozen other public radio stations around the country. You can stream PPT’s archive at PersonPlaceThing.org or download episodes via iTunes.
