SUMMARY:TDC 2019 Holiday Party at Poster House
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a convivial typographic evening with wine\, hors d’oevres\, two poster exhibitions with a curator-guided tour\, and a silent auction. \nThere may even be a nerdy typographic game (we’re still working on the details). \nTwo dynamic exhibitions at Poster House will be open during the party and curator Angelina Lippert will lead a tour of the Ghana movie poster show\, Baptized by Beefcake\, during the party. Also on view are smart\, passionate protest posters from the 2017 Women's March in Boston. \nEntry fees and silent auction proceeds will benefit the TDC scholarship fund. SUMMARY:Typophiles Annual Holiday Luncheon  with Maxim Zhukov
DESCRIPTION:Maxim Zhukov\, a longtime member and supporter of Type Directors Club\, is the featured speaker and will talk about his prolific and influential career in book design. \nTickets to the annual luncheon are $45 in advance and $49 at the door. \n? If you attend\, be sure to bring a wrapped book of interest to Typophiles to join in the group's traditional Holiday Grab Bag. \n \nMaxim will discuss his love affair with type\, and his persistent efforts to bring Russia back to the global typographic marketplace: exhibitions\, competitions and exchanges he arranged for—even in the midst of the Cold War. He will talk about the books he designed\, comment on the formatting tools he used\, their typography and layout\, typefaces\, printing and binding. Maxim will also chronicle his efforts to select and have translated and published some of the best books on type and typography\, including a few he himself wrote\, edited\, typeset\, and laid out. Finally\, he will show some of Cyrillic typefaces he helped to develop for many foundries and designers worldwide. \nWidely regarded as a leading authority on Cyrillic type design today\, Maxim Zhukov enjoyed a prolific and influential career in book design in Russia prior to 1977\, when he began his 30-year tenure as the Typographic Coordinator at the UN in New York City. In his talk he will focus on his book design and art direction\, which has been credited with introducing page layout grids and International Style to Soviet graphic design.
