2026 Scholarship Winners Announced

PRESS RELEASE

NEW YORK, November 5, 2026 — The Type Directors Club, the world’s leading typography organization, has announced this year’s winners for its three annual global student scholarship programs.

Adé Hogue Scholarship

Winning the 2026 Adé Hogue Scholarship, sponsored by Monotype in commemoration of gifted young Chicago-based art director, designer, letterer, and avid cyclist Adé Hogue, was Maya Cisneros, a student at School of Visual Arts studying Typography, Branding, and Motion.

She receives the $5,000 scholarship, which goes to an outstanding BIPOC student globally in their junior year of college or first year of graduate or postgraduate school who demonstrates exceptional talent and promise in the design or use of letterforms.

“As a mixed-race woman, I have often felt like I exist between worlds,” said Cisneros. “My identity has taught me that rules are fluid, and having insight into two rich, distinct cultures allows me to look at design through an unconventional lens. I like to experiment and juxtapose components, bring together things that shouldn’t exist together, and make them work using typography and layouts to bridge these gaps.”

Beatrice Warde Scholarship

This year’s $5,000 Beatrice Warde Scholarship, also sponsored by Monotype and named after the journalist, typographical scholar, and communicator on typography who was the first female member of the TDC, was awarded to Sanem Sari at University of Central Florida, studying Studio Art and Graphic Design.

The scholarship recognizes a woman or nonbinary individual college student globally in their junior year of undergraduate study whose work demonstrates exceptional talent, sophistication, and aptitude for typography, lettering, and/or type design.

“What interests me about branding is how it brings together multiple areas of design, including typography, print, and visual storytelling,” said Sari.  “I aim to create designs that are both expressive and functional, while continuing to grow across different media and deepen my practice of typography.”
