38th Annual Purim Ball

Description

Purim celebrates the survival of the Jewish people from a plot to destroy them in ancient Persia, as told in the Book of Esther. Themes related to hiding and masquerade are very significant in the celebration of the holiday, as Queen Esther concealed her Jewish identity when she was chosen as queen. Today, people celebrate by wearing costumes and masks to symbolize how things in the story of Purim were not as they first appeared.

The design of this invitation package for the Jewish Museum’s 2024 fundraising gala, the 38th Annual Purim Ball, focuses on the concept of concealment. Noisemakers, a celebratory rattle used during Purim celebrations, from the museum's collection are used throughout the invitation package, including a gold silhouette of a horse-shaped noisemaker which appears on either side of the main invitation card, obscuring event information yet not removing all legibility.
