A Very Long Now
Description
Artist Alicia Eggert and architect H James Lucas designed a 28¾-foot-tall steel & aluminum public artwork for Fort Worth, TX, which was fabricated and installated by 900 North Studios. Structural engineering by AJ Kuhn; placement designed in coordination with civil engineer Jim DeOtte. Local contractor Northstar Construction completed the foundation work and final hardscaping. ArrowType Name Sans was the basis of the lettering, which was interpolated across 60 steps so that 'NOW' could be reversed across the piece.
Eggert: “How would our behaviors change if we imagined a ‘now’ that extends 10,000 years into the past, or 10,000 years into the future? ‘A Very Long Now’ encourages both living in the present and thinking in longer terms. There are 60 NOWs in total, which alludes to those small increments of time counted by clocks—the number of seconds in a minute and the number of minutes in an hour.”
