ALEXANDRE DUMAS
Description
Five years ago, the Gallerie degli Uffizi in Florence made a remarkable discovery: a handwritten manuscript by Alexandre Dumas hidden in its archives.
As many manuscripts, the text was found in a fragmented and disorganized state.
In this particular case, design and structure played a critical role to allow comprehension and for readers to fully appreciate this unique discovery.
The work was structured in 7 volumes and published as a luxury box set to reflect the unique dimension of this piece.
Then, Bureau Berger introduced a binary design approach to reflect this unique dialogue between past and present, as well as the duality in imagery and in voices (Dumas vs curators).
This binary approach can be found in the book layout, with side-by-side compositions and templates. It can also be found in the choice and use of fonts: We have exclusively used Serif fonts for Dumas’ historical words, and Sans Serif for curator’s words.
