Bibubator Typeface
Description
This project is inspired by childhood memories and the environment of 1990s Kyiv, a time when Ukraine was shaping its identity—still industrial with a rough socialist legacy, yet open to Western influences.
The typeface balances softness and roughness, childhood qualities and rigid structure. While primarily display-oriented, the Regular weight performs well in small text blocks, maintaining a consistent texture. The Bold weight leans more toward display use, while the Black weight feels especially soft and playful. Yet, all three weights function cohesively as a system.
The core includes three weights—Regular, Bold, and Black—also available as a variable font. Additionally, a physical master was developed based on the Bold weight: a wooden construction set, metaphorically representing the building of both a young country and a growing identity. Beyond its conceptual role, the set serves as a promotional tool for the digital typeface—and a playful creative game for designers.
