Flux Watch Face
Description
The Flux watch face combines typography with color and movement to show the passing time. Color fills the face from the bottom as seconds count up and the numerals snap into new forms when the minute changes. The display of time can be customized to use Western Arabic, Eastern Arabic and Devanagari numerals.
The colors work in high contrast combinations or tonal matches. A dynamic color option keeps the watch face fresh minute by minute by cycling through all of the combinations.
Tightly composed and ever-changing time necessitated the creation of a custom 10-axis variable font and layout editing tool. Working with a 60-second grid, the typeface is stretched to moments of unity and tension between numerals.
A total of 4320 unique compositions of time were created by hand, one for each minute of the day across all three language localizations.
