Haraka Baraka
Description
Literally translated as ‘movement is a blessing’, Haraka Baraka is used to describe the importance of play and activity for one’s well-being.
This book is the result of a pro-bono collaboration with SkatePal, and features a series of original type-led illustrations, which visually interpret the meaning behind particular Arabic phrases, idioms and slang words.
Using a primary palette of orange and black, the illustrations combine Arabic and English letterforms to create graphic representations of the often poetic and lyrical meanings behind the phrases.
The design embraces play and movement above all else, an approach that deliberately runs counter to many people’s expectations or assumptions about the Arabic language – routinely associated with religion and politics.
