Inside the Collapse of the F.D.A.
Description
Jeneen Interlandi’s July 20 cover story examined the sweeping changes Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has brought to the F.D.A. His efforts have resulted in a systematic dismantling of one of America’s most important regulatory agencies. Kennedy’s assault on oversight has touched nearly every corner of the agency’s work, including stem cells, raw milk and vaccines. For the cover, we took one of the F.D.A.’s most recognizable symbols — a nutrition label — and showed it in midcollapse as a stark visual metaphor for an unraveling of the nation's regulatory framework. We used Helvetica Neue to stay most true to the original label designs.
