Letraço

Description

Letraço (the superlative form of the word “letter” in Portuguese, which also happens to be a combination of “Letra” + “Aço,” meaning “Steel Letter”) is an experimental typography project that merges graphic design and graffiti in public spaces. Each letter of the alphabet was individually designed and painted on steel doors, interacting with local businesses in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. For the popsicle shop, the letter P; for the Órion store, the letter O; and for the fashion store (in Portuguese "moda"), the letter M.

The project applied graphic design principles to the essence of graffiti—a surface and a spray can—exploring the boundaries between the two disciplines. Letraço transforms the urban landscape into a living typographic system, encouraging new interactions with the city and reinforcing the need for physical connection in an ultraconnected world.

When was the last time you truly looked at the city while walking?
