Description
Created for versatility, this variable patchwork sans serif type family includes Mono, proportional Duplex, Hexagon and Pentagon pattern fonts. Duplex means that the user can switch between weights without the text reflowing. The duplex feature comes in handy in book design, where changing the weight can have a big impact across many pages; and in web design, where you can animate text buttons to become bolder or lighter without the button changing its width.
The typeface is named after Marjorie Rice, an amateur mathematician. Between 1975 and 1977 she discovered four new types of tessellating pentagons and developed a notation method to describe them. The patchwork super family consists of 4 subfamilies: Proportional Duplex, Monospace and 2 pattern variable fonts: Hex and Penta. Blurring the boundaries between typography and pattern, Hex and Penta are an invitation to experiment, animate and explore.
