Nuo Opera Cultural Font

Description

Nuo Opera, also known as Ghost Opera, is one of the oldest Han ethnic ritual dances for worshiping gods and exorcising evil spirits, driving away epidemics, and expressing peace and prosperity. It is a comprehensive integration of history, customs, folk religion, and primitive theater.

We came across this intangible cultural heritage of China by chance and were instantly attracted by the ancient and mysterious mask dance. We used this as inspiration to create this series of English typefaces.

In the creative process, we researched various styles of Nuo Opera masks and extracted and summarized elements from them to present international features. The goal was to use design language to integrate the "new" and "old" of national culture.

We hope that through this design experiment, young generations will develop an interest in Chinese intangible cultural heritage, thereby helping traditional culture to be better disseminated in contemporary society.
