Paul Cadmus: 49 Drawings
Description
The core of this publication are forty-nine never-before-seen intimate drawings by queer icon Paul Cadmus. These works on paper all depict Cadmus’s longtime partner Jared French in various states of undress.
To highlight the sensualness of the work, we designed a tactile portfolio envelope with elegant mannered typography (Kessler), which opens to reveal the book. The cover has the same typographic treatment and a detail of the most tame work in the series, giving a sense of the book’s content.
The opening and closing of the book showcase photos capturing the relationship between artist and muse in a filmic series, and each chapter is separated by thin Bible paper, reinforcing this sense of hidden and visible. We rounded out the book with a series of images from Cadmus' and French’s artistic milieu, and ended with a roundtable conversation with leading queer artists discussing Cadmus’ legacy and relevance toda
