Public Space in Private Time

Description

The exhibition Public Space in Private Time, held at Storefront for Art and Architecture, brings together digital artists and architects to explore how data, technology, and urban development reshape public spaces, driving displacement, gentrification, and data-driven urbanization. The exhibition and its identity follow three key actions: capture, synthesize, and project through p5.js. It records urban activity by tracking movement, noise, and demographic shifts, then synthesizes these patterns to visualize the transformation of public space. Erosion and density shifts illustrate gentrification and displacement, while encroaching forms reveal urban expansion. More than an art exhibition, tour, or walk, this experience serves as a lens to observe New York City itself, using art to examine the forces of gentrification and urbanization shaping its identity.
