The Living End: Painting and Other Technologies
Description
The Living End: Painting and Other Technologies, 1970–2020 opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago on November 9, 2024, with a bespoke graphic identity encompassing out-of-home advertising, digital marketing, and ephemera inspired by the exhibition’s themes. Surveying the evolution of painting over the last fifty years, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the medium and the artists reinventing it through emerging technologies. Referencing visuals shaped by technology over time, the identity system integrates neon green from early CRT displays, color blocks that evoke pixelization, and highlights, brackets, and glyphs that nod to HTML code. The Creative Studio crafted a bold, disruptive identity while maintaining the MCA’s brand, ensuring visitors remained connected to the institution and its mission of championing revelatory art.
