{ unseen } " unspoken "
Description
{ unseen } " unspoken " is a project that began from a struggle to find form for something that isn't easily expressed. An experience that sits beneath the surface, invisible to the world but deeply felt within the body. In trying to make sense of this invisibility, I turned to making. The act of working with miscellaneous materials; cutting and pulling, became a way to translate pain into something tangible — something that could be seen and touched.
These forms are what I’ve named type objects: three-dimensional experimental letterforms where the act of making becomes inseparable from meaning; working through pain, sensation, and emotion to visualise experiences that are { unseen } and “ unspoken. ”
The type objects use typographic form as a language of embodiment. They carry the marks of both material and emotion, a kind of visual biopsy of what is hidden. Through the process, the letter{forms} became more than typographic experiments; they became vessels for experience. Each object is an attempt to give shape to what is often dismissed; the ‘quiet’ yet aggressive nature of endometriosis.
Different paper stocks, sewn and loose inserts, and shifting typographic rhythms create a reading experience that feels uncomfortable and unpredictable, reflecting the reality of living with the chronic condition. Through tactility and visual storytelling, the project offers a clearer, more empathetic way to start discussion around a prominent women’s health issue.
